Herd Health Planning

The practice encourages farmers to participate in completing a Herd/Flock Health Plan. All our farm vets are experienced in hands on farming and understand the necessity of good herd or flock management. Our vets are always available to answer any questions or queries that our farmers may have.

Our vets have competed a course which allows them to use the Scottish Animal Health Planning System, which is run by the SAC, which allows our vets to create an Animal Welfare plan online. The plan can then be used and updated by the farmer over the internet as and when required. The website can be viewed by clicking on the link – www.sahps.co.uk

Alternatively, a paper copy of a health plan may be created for easy reference.

Accreditation Schemes
Read more
Our vets are experienced in dealing with all accreditation schemes including CHeCS ( PCHS and HiHealth) and the Scottish Government BVD Eradication Scheme. We also routinely carry out Official Veterinary work for APHA including TB testing and investigating suspected cases of brucellosis and anthrax.
Bull Fertility Testing
Bull Fertility Testing
We regularly fertility test bulls using an electro-ejaculator. At a fertility exam, the bulls’ physical condition, his mobility and the fertility of his semen can all be assessed

Heifer Pelvic Scoring
We also routinely pelvic-score heifers using a pelvimeter to assess the size and shape of the birth canal. This can reduce the amount of calving difficulties and Caesars on-farm by detecting heifers that are not suitable to be put to the bull

Full emergency cover provided 24/7

We keep a large stock of medicines at both our Oldmeldrum and New Deer surgeries including vaccines, wormers, flukicides, mineral drenches and boluses.

Emergency Service
We always have at least two vets on call to cover everything from calvings and lambings to emergency slaughter. Call the usual surgery number to speak directly to a vet.
Parasite Control

Good parasite control is important for all farmed species. Our vets run faecal worm egg counts in our in-house labs to give results back to the farmer promptly. We also test in-house for other parasites including lungworm, liver fluke and sheep scab.

Based on lab results and information from the farmer, our vets can advise on the most effective treatments to use.
